Project invested over $1.35 million while retaining 45 jobs and creating 30 new positions in Dunkirk
The Dunkirk Local Development Corporation and REM-tronics Inc. today announced that the high reliability, electromagnetic, electromechanical, electronic products and systems manufacturer has completed its expansion into a remodeled facility located at 659 Brigham Road in Dunkirk, New York. This facility is designed to meet current demand for REM-tronics components while streamlining its manufacturing process to allow for immediate growth. Since the beginning of the project in 2010, REM-tronics has increased its local workforce to 65 workers with further expected growth to come.
“This is a project that truly was a regionally collaborative effort,” said Dunkirk Mayor Richard Frey. “I can’t thank Michael Kadis enough for his commitment to our area, and without the cooperative efforts of the DLDC, Empire State Development (ESD), the County of Chautauqua IDA and our local Dunkirk Sheridan Empire Zone board this project would not have been possible.
” The Dunkirk Local Development Corporation assisted the project with grants totaling $150,000 to facilitate the acquisition and renovation of the former Petri Baking Company facility.
“The return of this once vacant and underutilized facility to a productive state has been a focus of the DLDC and City Administration for some time,” said Dunkirk Local Development Corporation Administrative Director Kory Ahlstrom. “I want to thank Mr. Kadis for giving us the opportunity to compete for his business and choosing to make Dunkirk and Northern Chautauqua County REM-tronic’s permanent home. We are looking for great things and further growth from a great company in the future.” “REM-tronics is thankful for the efforts of the City, County and State economic development teams,” said REM-tronics Owner and President CEO Michael Kadis. “Having had the opportunity to work daily with the City and County professionals over the past two years as this project progressed, I can honestly say I could not have expected more. Pairing that with some very fine service from Empire State Development both locally and in Albany, I must say this region really is blessed with very fine representation. ” I am pleased to announce that REM-tronics has a home in Dunkirk and we are looking forward to continued growth and a continued partnership with Mayor Frey and his team and County Executive Edwards and his team.”
Kadis continued, “We are sad to leave Silver Creek and thankful for all the years in the community. However, in order to remain competitive, a new facility was required and I am ecstatic that a home could be found in Northern Chautauqua County that will allow us to grow and has allowed us to retain the jobs of all our wonderful employees locally.”
ESD assisted this project with a $75,000 grant that will improve the company’s manufacturing efficiencies so Rem-tronics can compete with overseas companies and accommodate future growth. By expanding in its new Dunkirk facility, Rem-tronics will strengthen its competitive edge in specialty electronic systems and provide new jobs for local residents,” said ESD President, CEO & Commissioner Kenneth Adams. “We want to thank our partners, including the Dunkirk Local Development Corp and the Chautauqua County IDA, for joining our efforts to support Rem-tronics and the crucial jobs it provides in the region.”
“The successful move of Rem-tronics from Silver Creek to Dunkirk once again shows what can be done when public development entities – the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA), Empire State Development Corp. (ESD), and the Dunkirk Local Development Corporation – work with a private business – Rem-tronics – to retain jobs and create new jobs in our County,” said Greg Edwards, County Executive. “The CCIDA and ESD started on this project in early 2007, and it has taken a number of twists and turns, but Michael Kadis kept his word and today we see this beautiful new facility here in the City of Dunkirk. In a short time, we will be able to make a very positive announcement about the old Rem-tronics facility in the Village of Silver Creek. The leadership of the Village of Silver Creek needs to be congratulated for their cooperation in allowing this business to receive state and local incentives to aid its move to Dunkirk, keeping the jobs in our County and State.”
